What Does the Berkshire Hospice Lottery Support?

The Berkshire Hospice Lottery is operated by Duchess of Kent House Charity in co-operation with Wokingham District Cancer Care Trust and is dedicated to raising funds to improve palliative hospice care in Berkshire and surrounding areas for patients with life-limiting diseases. By playing this lottery you are helping to fund day therapy, the family bereavement service, personal equipment loans, specialist equipment, psychology support, the chaplaincy, the dietician, complementary therapists and much more - as well as having the chance to win big cash prizes!.

A full-service specialist palliative care hospice serving the populations of Newbury, Reading and Wokingham and surrounding districts with 15 in-patient beds, day therapy (3 days a week) and out-patient service. The charity supports the hospice by paying for Bereavement (Family Support) Service, Psychology, Complementary Therapy, Diversional Therapy, the Chaplaincy, staff training and the new Befriending Service for carers. This commitment by the charity amounts to approximately £250,000 per year. The Charity also pays for extra or replacement equipment, patient outings, the garden and patient transport. In the last few months we have funded replacement ward furniture and new digital TVs for all in-patients at a cost of £40,000. 
 
All this amounts to a fundraising target of over £1300 a day every day of the year. For more details see www.dokhc.org.uk/

Wokingham District Cancer Care TrustWokingham District Cancer Care Trust (registration number: 1005833)

The object of the Trust, as set out in its constitution, is the “relief of suffering and the improvement of the conditions of life of persons with cancer or other life threatening illnesses who are resident in the Wokingham District”. We are able to provide financial help to support, amongst other things, the care of patients in the community (for example by providing funds for extra nursing care), to assist with the purchase of special equipment and aids needed, to assist with the payment of essential domestic bills where necessary.

We also help patients indirectly by supporting the continuing education of the professionals who look after them. For more details see www.wdcct.org.uk/

WDCCT supports the activities at British Airways Macmillan House including physiotherapy, psychology, extra nursing, aromatherapy and assistance for occupational therapy work.
