Local Resident Wins £5,000 On BHL

Tilehurst based Tina Millard is celebrating after scooping the £5,000 rollover jackpot in last week’s Berkshire Hospice Lottery (BHL) draw.

The biggest prize since the lottery began in September 2009, was the second time Tina had won a BHL prize, in January 2010 she won £20.  Prior to this, the largest amount won was £2,900, which was scooped by Reading resident Natalie Allen in July 2010.

Tina has been an active supporter of the Charity since 2008 when her mother-in-law, Margaret Millard, was treated at Duchess of Kent House before she died.  Tina has been involved in raising money through fundraising events such as football matches at Reading Town FC.

Tina received the call informing her of her winnings on Friday, 15 July, which would have been Margaret’s 73rd birthday. She said ‘This was a great piece of news on what is usually a difficult day. I play the lottery as a way to give a regularly donation to the Charity, and winning this huge prize has been a wonderful surprise and a lovely way to remember Margaret.’

George Solly, Director of Fundraising at Duchess of Kent House Charity said ‘The lottery is a different way for us to fundraise. Giving local people the chance to win something enables us to give something back for all their support. For the Charity the Berkshire Hospice Lottery is a win/win activity.’

Profits from the lottery go directly towards funding hospice services in the west and central Berkshire region covering Reading, Wokingham and Newbury.

Current players can even treat themselves to a voucher by buying a second or third number just for them!

Reading Resident Wins Berkshire Hospice Lottery for Fifth Time!

Cecilia Devenney from Waverley Road, Reading has been playing the Berkshire Hospice Lottery since its start in September 2009 and won no less than 5 times! Four lots of £20.00 and then last week she won the first prize of £750.00! She said “I had a feeling that I might have won” and went online to check the winning numbers at www.hospicelottery.com to find she had!

Cecilia is originally from County Tyrone, Northern Ireland but now lives locally with her husband and two children in Waverley Road, Reading, just a stone’s throw from the Duchess of Kent House Hospice. Her life has been touched by a friend’s mother who died at the Hospice last July which was a year to the day that her own father had died from cancer back in Ireland. Recently a close friend of hers has been diagnosed with breast cancer and she feels very strongly about supporting hospice and cancer care locally and is happy knowing she is giving something back to the Charity.

Her previous winnings were actually put back into good causes as she spent her winnings at a local charity shop! This £750.00 win is going towards a holiday this August in Ibiza with her two children so has come in very handy indeed.

Cecelia obviously has the ‘Luck of the Irish’ and has encouraged all her friends to join the Berkshire Hospice Lottery and apparently they’re filling in their direct debit forms as we speak! This Friday there is an amazing £2,000 to be won in the rollover, as well as the usual weekly prizes of £1,000.
